Northern Development Authority supports youth tree planting exercise

The Northern Development Authority (NDA) has supported youth group, Youth Alliance for Community Change (YACC Ghana), to undertake a tree planting exercise at Yaru in the Wa East District of the Upper West Region.

The Upper West Zonal Coordinator of the Authority, Maria Johana Yuorpor, handing over about 400 seedlings of assorted species of the trees, commended the youth group for such a project to plant trees to save the environment.

He urged the youth to take very good care of the plants and nurture to grow to fulfill the need for which they are being planted.

The Youth Alliance for Community Change under the aegis of the National Youth Authority (NYA) undertakes the tree planting exercise as part of its Climate Change Combat Campaign to mitigate the effects of an ever-changing ecology.

The planting exercise took place on Friday July 23, 2021 at Yaru where enthusiastic youths gathered for exercise.

Speaking at the field during the planting exercise, Abdul Razak Abdulai, Cooperate Affairs Manager at YACC Ghana, explained that the project was initially planned to happen on June 11, 2021 in line with government’s Green Ghana Day – a day for nationwide tree planting exercise of 5 million trees – but could not happen because of inadequate rains then.

He assured that the group will see to the growth of the plants, even if it takes them to water the plants.

He called for the support of likeminded organizations to support the YACC Ghana, as it is ever ready to strive in any cause that promotes the development of society.

Speaking at the sidelines of the planting exercise, the Team Lead for YACC Ghana, Aminu Ibrahim, said the group found tree planting a social responsibility as youth to stand up in service of community to stimulate development in all its facets.

He said the project was intended to ameliorate the effects of wanton felling of trees which resulted in deforestation and ultimately marring the agricultural value of the environment.

Youth Alliance for Community Change (YACC-GHANA) is a youth-led social impact group registered with the National Youth Authority in the Upper West Region which seeks to create a platform to confront the numerous challenges of the youth, community development, women and young girls through the sharing of experiences, ideas, expertise and best practices through visits and interactions.
