Nakori Chansa Technical Institute opens for fresh intake

Nakori Chansa Technical Institute (NAKOTECH) has opened admissions for the 2026/2027 academic year, with Junior High School graduates placed at the institution through the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) now reporting to begin the admission process.
The public boarding technical institution, located at Nakori in the Upper West Region, is one of the schools under the Ghana TVET Service providing technical and vocational education through the Competency-Based Training (CBT) curriculum.
NAKOTECH offers programmes in Wood Technology, Fashion Technology, Textile Design Technology, Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing Technology, providing learners with practical skills that can be applied in employment, further education or self-employment.
The Acting Vice Principal in charge of Academics and Skills Delivery, Mr Osman Salifu, said the school’s training approach places emphasis on helping students acquire practical competencies alongside the knowledge required to understand their chosen trades.
He said the CBT system allows learners to develop skills through practical training and assessment, with the aim of preparing them for actual workplace demands.
According to Mr Salifu, the increasing demand for practical and entrepreneurial skills makes technical and vocational education an important pathway for young people who want to enter the world of work or establish their own businesses.
Under Wood Technology, students acquire skills in areas including woodworking, furniture production and related processes. These skills can provide pathways into carpentry, furniture production and other wood-based businesses, as well as further technical education.
Fashion Technology provides training in garment production and related fashion skills, creating opportunities in tailoring, dressmaking, garment production and entrepreneurship.
Students in Textile Design Technology are trained in textile-related production and design, giving them skills that can be applied in textile and garment businesses, creative industries and self-employment.
Meanwhile, Beauty Therapy and Hairdressing Technology prepares learners for careers in hairdressing, beauty care and related personal-care services, with opportunities to work for established businesses or establish their own enterprises.
Mr Salifu said the school is also focused on ensuring that students receive training from facilitators and teachers with the technical knowledge and practical experience needed to guide them through their programmes.
He noted that the success of a technical education programme should not only be measured by classroom instruction but also by the ability of graduates to apply what they have learnt to solve problems and earn a livelihood.
For students entering the school, the programmes therefore offer more than preparation for examinations. They provide an opportunity to acquire a trade and develop competencies that can be built into a career or business.
With the 2026/2027 admissions process underway, Junior High School graduates placed at NAKOTECH through the CSSPS are expected to complete their admission requirements and report to the institution.
The opening of the new intake comes as Ghana continues to place greater emphasis on technical and vocational education as a means of equipping young people with practical skills relevant to employment, industry and entrepreneurship.
