Kaleo East Assembly Member calls for dredging of Kaleo Dam

Assembly Member for Kaleo East Electoral Area, Fusca Ninkpeng has appealed to the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly and corporate organizations to help dredge the Kaleo dam.

He said this has become necessary at a time where the long constructed dam is shallow-silting and is unable to support gardening drive of the people, and also livestock.

In an interview with Info Radio at the Community, Ninpkeng stated that, the dam serves as a source of drinking water for both livestock and humans, and serves as water source for irrigation farming in the community.

He however lamented that, the dam has not been dredged over the decades it was constructed thereby reducing its water holding capacity.

The Assembly Member feared that the dam is in the verge of drying up if serious attention is not given to it.

According to the Fusca Ninkpeng, series of appeals have been laid before the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly to dredge the dam but has yielded no positive respond.

He said if critical attention is not given, they would lose their livestock to drought, the lives of aquatic species like fishes would be threaten, which serves as source of revenue to some residents particularly fishermen, and irrigation farmers would be compelled to stop farming.

Fusca Ninkpeng therefore called on the Nadowli-Kaleo District Assembly and other benevolent organizations to dredge the dam for them.
