The first lawyer from the Dagawiile Tribe in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region, Lawyer Charles Yaw Toeng, has delivered a powerful message of hope and determination to his people, urging them to stay focused on their dreams despite life’s challenges.

Speaking during a Thanksgiving Service held at the Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) Church in Polee Bawa, Lawyer Toeng recounted his humble beginnings, revealing that his father was a borrower while he pursued his education.

“All of you have seen it — I, the son of a borrower, Toeng, became a lawyer,” he declared, drawing applause from the congregation.

Lawyer Toeng shared that his journey to the legal profession was inspired by the experiences and struggles he witnessed among the Dagawiile people. Despite facing numerous financial constraints, he remained determined to succeed.

He encouraged the youth, especially students, to be focused and disciplined, emphasizing that success is possible through hard work and perseverance.

“If I, the son of a borrower, can become a lawyer, then the people of Dagawiile can do it too — if they are determined to achieve their visions,” he said.

Lawyer Toeng also cautioned the youth against drug abuse, fornication, stealing, and other social vices, urging them instead to channel their energy toward education and personal development.

Adding his voice to the celebration, Lawyer Lwanga Bagonluri Saanyeh, a trainer and mentor of Lawyer Toeng, praised his mentee for his determination and resilience. He noted that out of sixteen trainees, Toeng is the only one who has been called to the Ghana Bar Association in the Upper West Region — making him a symbol of inspiration for the Dagawiile Tribe.

“He is the twelfth person I have trained, and I’m proud of how far he has come. I appeal to the Dagawiile community to support him,” Lawyer Bagonluri said.

In his welcome remarks, Pastor David Ankaraama, host of the event, explained that the Thanksgiving Service was organized to celebrate how far God has brought Lawyer Toeng.

“We are gathered here to celebrate what the Lord has done — elevating one of our own to a noble profession,” Pastor Ankaraama stated.

The event drew members of the Dagawiile community, church leaders, and well-wishers who came together to honor Lawyer Toeng’s remarkable achievement and to draw inspiration from his journey.
