Assembly Member inaugurates committee to check illegal connection of electricity

The Assembly Member for Tanina Electoral Area in the Wa West District, Mr Seidu Kassim has inaugurated a committee in Tanina to check illegal connection of electricity in the area.

The committee is also expected to report any challenges on frequent power outages at the community to the Volta River Authority (VRA).

The 17 members of the electricity watchdog committee were selected from different sections of the electoral area.

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony on Friday, July 29, 2022, the Assembly Member, Mr Kasim said the complaint from the VRA about illegal connection of electricity is high in the Electoral Area, hence the need to constitute a committee to support the fight against the perpetration.

Members of the committee

The Regional Customer Service Officer at GRA, Madam Alimata Bamie, was happy about the constitution of the committee as it would help them reduce illegal connection of electricity in Tanina electoral area.

She urged the community members to always pass information about electricity challenge through the committee to the VRA for resolve.

Madam Alimata, therefore, warned the people in the area to desist from illegal connection of electricity and said anyone caught in the act would be made to face the law.

The Chief of Tanina, Naa Mwinisen Salia I, has expressed his profound gratitude to the Assembly Member and the people about the initiative to ensure illegal tapping of electricity is dealt with, and frequent power outage will reduce.
