Wa Municipal Assembly Considering Disbanding Youth Groups and Camps


The Wa Municipal Assembly dropped the hint during the First Ordinary Session of the Assembly in Wa.


Addressing the members of the Assembly, the Municipal Chief Executive fior Wa Honorable Issahaku Tahiru noted that, the said recommendation has been laid before the House on several occasions, however it was included again because there was no consensus among the assembly members.


The decision to disband youth camps in the municipality was contained a report of the Executive Committee of the Assembly in the bid to reduce the rate of crime in the municipality.


But, the General Assembly, upon wider considerations of the plan , kicked against it at the First Ordinary Session of the Assembly. According some members of the assembly, it will be a daunting task for the assembly identify youth camps considered to be engaged in criminal activities among the hundreds on camps dotted across the municipality.


In an interview with Info News, the Assembly Member for the Zingu Electoral Area, Honorable Nuhu Abdul Wahab is of the view that the situation is a source of worry but difficult to tackle since good and bad camps cannot be differentiated. However, he noted that, there must be strict scrutiny to be able to tackle this issue.
