Speaker Bagbin commissioned the renovated Wa Sports Stadium

Mr Alban Sungmana Kingsford Bagbin, the Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament, has handed over the renovated Wa sports stadium to the Upper West Regional Sports Council on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Alban expressed his commitment to developing the sports sector in the Upper West Region to help unearth the sports talents in the region.

He renovated stands in the stadium which were in a deplorable state.

The roofs were ripped off by rainstorms some years ago leaving the facility unfriendly for spectators to use during football matches, especially during the rainy season.

Mr Bagbin indicated that developing the sports sector in the region through the elevation of the sports facilities would attract sporting activities to the region and thus lead to business growth.

He stated that the renovation of the stands at the sports stadium was not to signify that the whole facility had been worked on but to draw the attention of the indigenes of the region to contribute their quota to the development of sports in the region.

The stadium will be where Wa Suntaa SC and Maana FC, the two national Division I clubs in the region host their home matches in the 2022/2023 season.

On his part, Alhaji Yahaya Biyad, the Chairman of the Upper West Regional Football Association, commended the Speaker of Parliament for his commitment to developing sports in the region.

He expressed appreciation to him for the steps he had taken to renovate the stands at the stadium and said it would help give a face-lift to the facility and sports in the region in general.

The Wa All Stars Ladies and Sung Shining Ladies football clashed where Sung Shining Ladies carried the day with 4-0, while Power FC also beat Exponential Academy 1-0 on a spot kick after the commissioning of the renovated facility.

Some other dignitaries and traditional leaders graced the occasion including the Wa West Member of Parliament (MP), Superintendent (RTD) Peter Lanchene Toobu and a former MP of Wa East Constituency, Mr Amin Salifu.
